Charted Waters ("we", "our", or "us") operates the website chartedwaters.app — a charter operator directory and booking platform connecting guests with independent boat operators and fishing guides across the Abaco Islands, Bahamas. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

Charted Waters is currently in its initial launch phase. The Platform primarily facilitates operator discovery and direct inquiries. Online payment processing is available on select listings and will expand over time.

By using Charted Waters, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our platform.


1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Inquiry and booking forms: Name, email address, phone number, travel dates, party size, and any message you send to an operator.
  • Account registration (operators): Business name, email address, phone number, location, and profile information provided during onboarding.
  • Payment information: Where online booking is available, payment details (card number, billing address) are collected and handled directly by Stripe. We do not store payment card data on our servers.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, time on site, clicks, and referring URLs, collected via Vercel Analytics (privacy-friendly, no cross-site tracking).
  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, and IP address (used for security and fraud prevention).
  • Cookies: Session cookies required for authentication. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To connect you with charter operators and facilitate booking inquiries.
  • To process payments and issue booking confirmations and receipts, where online booking is available.
  • To send transactional emails (booking confirmation, operator replies, reminders). We do not send marketing email without your explicit consent.
  • To alert operators and guests of hurricane watches or warnings that may affect their booking (applicable to Confirmed Bookings processed through the Platform).
  • To improve platform performance, resolve technical issues, and prevent fraud.
  • To comply with applicable laws and legal processes.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

  • With operators: When you submit an inquiry or booking, your name, contact details, and trip information are shared with the relevant charter operator so they can respond.
  • Service providers: We use trusted third-party services to operate the platform. Each provider processes data only as directed by us:
    • Clerk — user authentication and identity management
    • Stripe — payment processing (PCI-DSS compliant)
    • Supabase — database hosting (data stored in the United States)
    • Vercel — website hosting and edge delivery
    • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Charted Waters, our users, or the public.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. Booking records are retained for a minimum of 7 years for financial and legal purposes. Inquiry data that did not result in a booking is deleted after 12 months. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 6).

  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Opt-out: Unsubscribe from any marketing communications at any time via the link in any email we send.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, row-level database security, and access controls to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.


8. Children's Privacy

Charted Waters is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at support@chartedwaters.app.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the most recent changes were made. Continued use of Charted Waters after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
