Flats Bonefish at Dawn
In June, bonefish on Nassau's shallow flats are most cooperative before 9am and again after 3pm as midday heat pushes water temps above 84°F.
Grouper Reefs Open Now
Nassau grouper season runs March through November — Bahamas DMR requires a 12-inch minimum total length and the fishery closes hard December 1.

Local knowledge
Nassau sits on the northwest edge of New Providence Island, flanked by the shallow Bahamas Bank to the south and the Tongue of the Ocean — a 6,000-foot-deep blue water trench — just to the north. That geography is the whole story for anglers: bonefish flats, productive reef structure, and legitimate offshore fishing are all accessible in a single day without relocating. The harbour is well-equipped, captains are experienced across multiple fisheries, and there is no shortage of boat sizes or trip formats through local independent operators.
June is shoulder season, which means bonefish are on the flats but require discipline — plan your tide-dependent sessions for early morning or late afternoon when water temps are manageable and fish are actively feeding. Permit are dropping into cooler channels as the flats warm. Reef fishing for Nassau grouper is open now under Bahamas DMR rules, with a 12-inch minimum total length strictly enforced. Offshore, mahi and wahoo are reliable along the canyon edges, and blue marlin show when conditions line up. Spiny lobster season is closed until August 1, so keep that off the request list until late summer.

Flats Fishing — Bonefish
Anglers wade or pole skiffs across shallow tidal flats targeting bonefish on the cast — Bahamas DMR mandates catch and release only for bonefish in all Bahamian waters, and barbless hooks are strongly encouraged.
Offshore Sportfishing
Captains run north toward the Tongue of the Ocean for blue marlin, mahi, wahoo, and tuna on trolling or live bait setups depending on conditions.
Reef and Bottom Fishing
Anglers fish Nassau's extensive reef structure for snapper, grouper, and amberjack using cut bait or jigs at depths between 40 and 120 feet.
Nearshore Light Tackle
Tarpon, jacks, and barracuda are targeted in Nassau Harbour edges and nearshore channels using live bait, flies, or light spinning gear from smaller skiffs.
Snorkeling and Reef Combo Trips
Half-day boats combine reef fishing with snorkel stops over Nassau's shallow coral heads — a practical option for mixed groups where not everyone is strictly fishing.
