The Exuma flats are among the least-pressured in the Bahamas — shallow, clear water over white sand and turtle grass with trophy bonefish.
Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park
176 square miles of fully protected marine habitat — snorkeling with sharks, rays, and nurse sharks in some of the clearest water in the Atlantic.
Sandbar cay-hopping
Secluded sandbars, swimming with sharks at Compass Cay, and the famous Pig Beach at Big Major Cay — accessible only by boat.
Offshore deep sea fishing
The Exuma Sound drops to 6,000+ feet right off the cays — offshore wahoo, mahi-mahi, and tuna within reach of most charters.
The Exumas are a chain of 365 cays stretching 130 miles through the central Bahamas, from Barraterre in the north to Great Exuma and Little Exuma in the south. George Town on Great Exuma is the main settlement and charter hub. To the north, the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park — the first marine protected area in the world — creates a 22-mile sanctuary with some of the most pristine reef and fish populations in the Caribbean.
The Exuma Sound — the deep water channel to the east — separates the cays from Cat Island and drops to over 6,000 feet just a few miles from shore. Wahoo and mahi-mahi stack up on the Sound's edge. To the west, the Great Bahama Bank provides miles of shallow-water bonefishing territory, much of it still rarely visited.
Every listing on Charted Waters includes live tide predictions and a hurricane refund policy. Book direct with local captains who know these waters.
